Elfin Arrivals and Tumultuous Journeys

Tumultuous journeys is correct!

What must have happened en route from Arizona to Ontario is beyond me.

Vanessa, did you tape the brown paper up like that or did customs try and take a peek?

I have no idea what the black is under the tape... that's what makes me think Willa's journey was tumultous!

Tough stuff!

Vanessa is SOOO sweet <3

Swathed in some purple tissue...

And she sees the light for the first time in a couple of weeks!  I would like to introduce everyone to Willa Piecrustbottoms Elfonzo, who has just immigrated to Canada!  They roughed up her packaging crossing the border, but her bubble wrapping remained intact, ensuring her perfect state upon arriving.

I immediately offered her a cuppa and requested details about her journey.

Not wanting to make a bad impression she did not complain about the rough customs agents and postal workers, and how the handled her.  She said her journey was quite pleasant and she was pleased to be at her destination!  I am afraid she must have been sitting in the mail box until I arrived home from school at 4:30, and the mail lady usually comes around 12:30.  That's 4 hours.  It's quite cold here in comparison to Arizona.  For example, according to it is -8 degrees celsius (17.6 degrees fahrenheit) where I live, and in Catalina right now it is 22 degrees celsius (71.6 degrees fahrenheit).  Eek!  What a shock to poor Willa's system!  I assure you, her accomodations will be comfortable tonight, and well... for as long as she lives with me (which I do hope will be forever.)

I introduced her to the local rabbit family:

It's quite possible that Willa will be sleeping on that very couch this evening, until her home is prepared.  I gave her a bit of a preview.  I swear, I WILL get the interior done soon!

I think she will fit in here just beautifully :)

Thank you SO SO much to Vanessa for letting Willa come live with me.  She is utterly beautiful and I am so happy to have her here.

Lots of love,

I do believe in fairies, I do!

I have this feeling fairies lurk in my garden.

Once upon a time, when I was in the 11th grade I decided to look out my window at about 1 am.  What did I see but these glowing orbs about the size of soccer ball, they were floating around and zipping all about.  I saw one and then it ducked behind the garden shed, then I saw another weaving at the speed of light through the trees in the forest.

Since that day I have had no doubt that fairies live in the forest behind my lace filled tower (and the rest of my home of course).

My mother thought I had completely lost it when she caught me in a long floral dress once out in the garden talking to the fairies at sunrise on the Summer solstice.  But what am I to do?  Pretend they don't exist?  I've been given a gift, the knowledge of their existence.  I refuse to let them down by ignoring them.

How can one doubt there are fairies when the sky is painted in such lovely hues?  It gives one the impression that anything is possible, and everything magical, fairies, ghosts, witches, goblins, the Loch Ness monster...  THEY'RE ALL REAL!

So I whipped out my art supplies and there it was.  Inspiration :)

I would like to present to you "The Twilight Tea Party"

I feel so blissful and magic filled as I write this post.

I have set up a wee altar in the dressing room, of course with Cameron's beautiful painting of a gypsy goddess crowning it.

And I have been reading Peter Pan!  Isn't this the loveliest copy imaginable?  I love the boats and moons of course!

I also have won a blog award!  The Leibster blog award was awarded to me by Sara at Goddess of 4.
Thank you Sara!

The Liebster blog award means "dearest" in German and is for bloggers who have less than 200 followers. If you win the award, please please copy and paste the award onto your blog and award it to 5 other people, and let them know with a comment! :)

I award this to:

Blessing to all on this Friday!

Yarn and Homes For Elves

Boy oh boy am I pleased this week is over.  It started off rather nastily I must say.  I spilled water all over my beloved computer!  And thus began the hunt for repairs... where each "expert" who was meant to be helping me with my plight treated me as a criminal!  As though I'd besmirched the name of all Apple consumers by knocking a glass of water onto my baby.  HELLO PEOPLE!  I am the victim here!!!

I apologize for that rant, but if I have been less available in the emailing or blogging universes, that's the reason.  I have a little netbook for now... not a very powerful machine but she will have to do for now.

I have indeed begun to create!  Surprisingly though, paint hasn't hit any canvases around here.  I've been doing more of the gluing, knitting, moulding sort of creating.  I have a knitted creation to share.  When I knit... well I only know how to do it in a straight line really.  And I would love to be able to create things like socks and mittens, but I haven't got the patience to learn.  I also crochet, but that is even worse as far as propriety goes.  I am all over the place with that.  I even use crochet hooks to sort of... sew yarn. Haha!  So without further ado, I am introducing you to my raglan quilt.

Isn't it utterly bonkers??  I am in bliss.  Yarn and colours and softness.  Ahhhh, wonderful.

It looks little I know, but at just 5'3" it covers MY toes!  Perfection when the snow keeps on stacking up.  We were snowed in two days this week!  It just wouldn't stop!  I kind of enjoy an excuse to stay inside and create though :)

Can you see the smoke rising up from the Goblin mines in the distance?  Perhaps not but I assure you it is there!  Everytime the sky is a pale violet and you can see the snow falling and it's one of those nights where everything is bright as day but it's so obviously night?  I love that... that's when I can feel the universe's magic the best.  That's what I consider true spirituality.  The ability to feel that greatness and expanse in nature.  It makes me think of Van Gogh's Starry Night.

I have been working on something that will be shared very soon!  It's for miss elfin Willa, to live in and call home.  So hopefully she'll love it.  I already have other plans in case she decides to move into the doll house instead.  Completely up to her.  Here's a sneak peak just for all of you...

Hope you have a lovely weekend!

P.S. You may have noted the layout changes around here.  Let me know what you think.  Though I must be honest... I don't know if I'd be able to figure out how to get it back the way it was anyway!  HAHA!

Making Room For Art & Paint Myself Pretty!

Hello ladies!

I was chuffed as can be (I use British slang in regular conversation now, I think it's a side effect of too much Harry Potter) when I received a parcel in the mail from the loveliest of lovely people, Cameron at Paint Myself Pretty.  Can I just say, the shipping took literally 3 business days!!!  Cameron's in California!  I'm in Ontario!  That's utterly insane.  Kudos to both Cameron and the lovely folks at USPS and Canada Post.  HAHA!

Cameron has just been the dearest and most wonderful person through this whole process of me starting to blog.  She has been there from day one commenting and saying the kindest things to me and being supportive of my whimsical self.

Her art work speaks for itself, it is so, so divine.  I've been obsessed with these pieces since they arrived.  Constantly staring at them and being filled with joy just at the sight of them.  The first piece is called Butterfly Garden and she lives on top of my fireplace for now.  I can see her from my bed as I type this and she makes me squeal with delight!

My camera and the lack of sun do not do justice to how pretty she is.  I apologize for the shadow caused by my body that has fallen across her face HAHA!

Isn't she so completely beautiful?  Makes me wish it was Summer :)

And the second piece is called Gypsy Girl, so what better place to hang her than the Gypsy Dressing Room?

Ok my camera is terrible and I am angry with it... but seriously.  This is such a beautiful, beautiful piece. She's so mysterious, something I'd like to portray when getting dressed so what a perfect place for her.

Cameron, thank you SO SO much for painting these beautiful pieces and offering them on your Etsy.  You really make the world a better place with your art.  Literally just the happiness I am filled with when I look at these everyday, well it's bliss :)

Art is bliss :)

Cameron's blog is

And her Etsy is:

As far as art and painting go for myself, well I find I really have to be in the mood to create.  I haven't done much of it in the past year, but I hope to contribute more time to it.  When meeting someone new a couple of months ago, they asked me what my hobbies were.  After naming a few things I threw in as an afterthought "Oh I paint!"  BADNESS!  When he asked me what sort of painting I do I said "Oh it's silly really... just silly little paintings."  That's terrible!  I am so very unhappy with myself for that!

You see, the thing is I have never really taken my art seriously.  It's always been a sort of side hobby.  But I've grown to love it, and seeing how much I appreciate the art of others I understand now that my art is a very important part of my life.  Art saves.  It takes us away from this often very rotten world and allows us to soar in a land that is all our own.  No one has to go there if we don't want to invite them, but when we do let others into our magical little art world we often find that they feel the same way about their own art, and even (if you're lucky) ours.

So I guess what I'm (ramblingly) trying to say is WHO CARES how silly what you do may seem at the time.  I think the little things that make life so nice are really the big things in the end...

I have made a little space to paint in my big white shelf:

Wish me luck!

P.S. Can I move in here...?

P.S.S.  This is my favourite singer.  Her name is Cara Dillon and she's an Irish folk singer.  Her song "Come Flying With Me" from the Tinkerbell soundtrack has got to be the loveliest thing I have ever heard.  I think I have chosen it as the song I will sing to my daughter every night before bed (when I have a daughter :P)

Four walls, a window, old wooden beams.
Your room overflowing with drawings and dreams.
Of a land where your wishes roam wild and free.
I'm right here beside you, come flying with me.

Don't be afraid now, beautiful girl.
Show me your courage and then show the world.
Spinning and soaring so fast and so high.
Pretend that this room is as vast as the sky.

Pretend you are brave and then brave you will be.
I'm right here beside you, come flying with me.

Cozy Nights

On nights like these...

I find myself here...

With this big old electric thing on high...

Burning this yummy Yankee candle in Pomegranate Cider...

Watching everyone's favourite wizard on my screen...

Drinking tea and reading wonderful stories of adventure and whimsy...

When I was younger I was obsessed with this movie called The Princess and the Goblin.  I believe it's on Youtube, I'll put a link here.

Anyhow, if you have some time to sit and watch a cozy, whimsical, wonderful little fairy tale, I definitely recommend it.  The point I am getting at is that I live in a mining town, and all night long I can hear the mining equipment and the noises, as well as the smoke from the smelters and such.  This isn't too loud and it's only if I leave my window open.  The goblins in the Princess and the Goblin have mines, and I like to pretend that I live near Goblin mines... not regular ones.  HAHA!  It makes the whole icky mining process a lot more magical.  I am all safe and sound in my lace filled tower while the goblins are mining away past the mountains.

Here are the books!  I also highly recommend the song that Curdie sings in the movie.  It'll be JAMMED in your head in the most wonderful way possible.

I have a secret... since Christmas I've been hoarding treasures in this wonderful box my mum got me...

Oh yes I really am that rotten!  I don't like jelly beans... but I love the look of them because they make me think of Bertie Bott's.  Which I of course, love.

Hope all is well in all of your whimsical worlds.

Lots of love,
(and Mr. G, of course)

My Christmas Goodies and New Year's Resolutions

Hello all!  I hope you had a wonderful holiday, unfortunately it is now over.  I am back to school tomorrow  :(  I really only had about 10 days of a break and I had to do A LOT of family stuff for most of it.  Not that I mind.  It was lovely.  I think my body was trying to tell me something though because I was terribly sick with a cold for most of my holidays!  I had just exerted myself too much over this semester and the sickness was my body's way of getting all the nastiness out I suppose.

I would like to introduce you all to a very special someone.  This is Miss Lady and she is a spoiled rotten King Charles Cavalier mix.  She is utterly rotten but we love her :)

My brother's girlfriend Emma got me this vintage inspired makeup bag.  I love it!  It's soooo me :) Haha!

I got this pop up book called Enchanted Dolls' House Wedding.  It had several pop up Victorian houses and talks about Victorian, Edwardian, and Regency wedding traditions and dressing styles.  It's amazing!  It's a children's book of course haha, but it looks fantastic opened up on top of my fireplace.

I also got this book called Princess Alyss of Wonderland.  It's the pretend diary of "Alyss" who is a real princess of Wonderland but Lewis Carroll just told her story all wrong.  What a silly concept!  But it's delightful, and is a really really beautiful book.  It has little popups and envelopes to open.

And finally, do you guys know about Lush?  It's been my obsession for years.  Solid bubble bath and bath bombs, unique and delicious soaps.  It's an extremely innovative and fresh company but it's a little costly.  I didn't technically get any Lush for Christmas... I had bought a ton of the little gifts to give to friends and had two extras in the end.  Naughty naughty me... I opened them!  I know, that's so bad.  But I am an addict who needs help :)

They're even filled with multi colour old fashiony packing peanuts!  I love!

Now that all of that materialistic stuff that I love so much is out of the way, I have one really big New Year's resolution.  It's extreeeeeemely important and I think it should be everyone's resolution.  And it is:

Be my own best friend.  Protect and love myself.  Don't let anyone who doesn't have my best interests at heart into my life.  Do what I want to do and what is best for ME!  Stop trying to please everyone and make everyone happy, there's such a thing as being nice, then there's being a doormat.  It's a fine line between the two.  I want to love me and ALWAYS do what is in my own best interest.
